Posted on Tuesday, August 31, 2010 in Competitions

puma-tottenham-hotspur-win

Tottenham Hotspur will rub shoulders with Europe’s elite club teams for the first time since 1961/62. Tottenham will make their first ever appearance in the competitions’ current format; the UEFA Champions League after defeating Swiss side; Young Boys.

Spurs, under Harry Redknapp, fought their way to 4th place in the Premier League last season to earn a shot at qualifying for the group stage of the competition. After being 3-0 down after half an hour in the first leg of the tie, Spurs looked to have fluffed their lines but a great come-back and hat-trick from Peter Crouch at White Heart Lane saw Spurs gain a spot in the lucrative competition.

PUMA FOOTBALL COLLECTION COMMEMORATES MARADONA’S 50TH BIRTHDAY

Posted on Monday, August 23, 2010 in Balls, Boots, Kit and Apparel

diego-maradona

As Diego Maradona prepares to celebrate his 50th birthday, PUMA is marking the occasion with the launch of a new collection dedicated to one of the greatest footballers ever to have played the game.  Over a playing career that spanned more than 20 years, Maradona broke the world transfer record twice, led Napoli through the most successful period of the club’s history, and captained Argentina to a World Cup victory in 1986 in which he won the Golden Ball as the tournament’s best player.  All in PUMA boots.  Few people will forget the ‘Goal of the Century’ as he collected the ball in his own half, danced around six England players, before slipping the ball past Peter Shilton in a moment that cemented his status as a footballing legend.

Maradona wore PUMA boots throughout his career, having a passion for the brand that never wavered.  Most recently, the former Argentina national manager could be seen wearing PUMA boots on the training ground in South Africa, as he coached his countrymen through the 2010 World Cup.

The PUMA Diego collection comprises of the following:

Esito Diego Finale I FG

After sporting PUMA boots throughout his career, this special edition of the Esito Diego Finale I FG is a fitting piece of the collection. Offering a classic design, this boot combines comfort and longevity by using a soft yet highly abrasion resistant PU synthetic leather.

PUMA V1.10 SL LIGHTNING BOOTS

Posted on Thursday, August 19, 2010 in Boots

puma-sl-lightning

Just a few weeks ago, Puma released the new V1.10 SL which took lightweight speed boots to another level. Weighing in at a miserly 150g, the SL took the ‘lightest boot in the world’ title off the highly successful Adidas AdiZero.

puma-v1-10-sl-lightning

The V1.10 SL took inspiration from the v1.815 Ferrari concept boot and is a stripped out version of the original V1.10. Now Puma have released the second colourway of this groundbreaking boot; Team Yellow/Amazon Green/Black which was inspired by the national colours of Jamaica.

Why Jamaica? Well Puma have the fastest man on the planet on their books in the shape of Usain Bolt. The Olympic gold medal winner is an avid football fan and has been seen running in the African Unity Kit and ‘Tricks’ colourway inspired running shoes. It is no surprise then that Bolt and one of Puma’s most recognizable faces in football; Samuel Eto’o joined forces to inspire the design of this new boot.

Usain Bolt and Samuel Eto’o deliver the ultimate in speed, skill and performance and this is reflected in the new V1.10 SL Lightning. The bright colours of Jamaica are not the only stand out feature on the boot. Swarovski crystals embedded in the heel link it to the IAAF Diamond League while the Jamaican national motto “Out of Many, One People” is presented on the out-step.

The boot’s upper is an ultra-light abrasion resistant microfibre bounded to the Pebax external heel counter. A Carbon Fibre reinforced outsole gives the boot great strength and balance for your mid-foot.

These boots are truly eye-catching and an amazing technological achievement for Puma. The AdiZero has taken the footballing world by storm and we wait with expectation to see what the new Team Yellow/Amazon Green/Black V1.10 SL Lightning can do.

PLATINUM STARS TO SPARKLE IN STATE OF THE ART PUMA KIT

Global sports brand PUMA® has unveiled the state of the art kit that Platinum Stars will sport during the new PSL season. The v1.10 speed kit is inspired by the joy, rhythm and athleticism of Africa football and has the same design as that worn by Ghana, Algeria, Ivory Coast and Cameroon at the 2010 World Cup.

The PSL team launched the kit on Friday August 13 at the Royal Bafokeng sport campus in Phokeng. PUMA AND UNITED NATIONS ENVIRONMENT PROGRAMME ANNOUNCE ’PLAY FOR LIFE’ DONATION RECIPIENTS

Proceeds from ‘The Play For Life’ Campaign to Fund Conservation Programs in Africa in Support of the International Year of Biodiversity

PUMA® and the United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP) have announced three major conservation programmes in Africa as beneficiaries of the ‘Play For Life’ campaign, a World Cup inspired partnership to support the 2010 International Year of Biodiversity.

Proceeds generated from the campaign will be donated to Support for Elephants in the Ivory Coast and Liberia, Promoting Community Participation in Gorilla Conservation in Nigeria and The African Lion: King Without A Kingdom in Zambia.

PUMA® and the United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP) partnered this year to launch the ‘Play For Life Campaign’, a global initiative dedicated to raising awareness about the importance of species and habitat conservation among football fans and the general public. Fans were able to vote for their favourite cause on FACEBOOK.COM/PUMA and via a UNEP enabled website, resulting in the three beneficiaries being chosen for the campaign donations.

“PUMA has a long standing relationship with Africa and African Football, and as a corporation dedicated to sustainable futures, we could not ignore the growing environmental challenges that face the region,” said Jochen Zeitz, Chairman and CEO of PUMA.  “With 13 sponsored African national football teams, we were uniquely positioned and honored to help champion this cause with UNEP”.

The ‘Play for Life’ campaign promoted the International Year of Biodiversity through a combination of events, social networks, PUMA retail and fundraising activities and public service announcements with Cameroon footballer Samuel Eto’o.  Each element of the programme encouraged the public to take action and get involved.

Satinder Bindra, UNEP’s Director of Communications, said: “Through this valuable partnership with PUMA, we are enabling millions of football fans around the globe to play an active role in conservation. The ‘Play For Life’ donations will benefit major African conservation projects.

“In the Ivory Coast and Liberia, we will support a project that focuses on creating and preserving migration corridors for the elephants. In Zambia, we will support the provision of accurate estimates of lion populations and the development of national management strategies for their conservation. In the Mbe Mountains, we will support the hiring and training of ecoguards and Gorilla guardians. We hope that this collaboration will empower ordinary people to play a part in landmark conservation projects. ”

Please visit www.africa.puma.com for more information on the ‘Play for Life’ campaign, the beneficiaries, or to purchase products.
