Lionel Messi will be the first and only player to wear the distinctive chameleon purple, white and electricity colourway at his final La Liga game at Camp Nou and during the 2010 FIFA World Cup. The FIFA World Player of the Year says “I am amazed at how light the new F50 is; I can barely feel them on my feet. Speed on the pitch is a really important part of my game and wearing the world’s lightest boot will hopefully make me faster and enhance my performance during the most important games of the year!”

Posted on Wednesday, December 2, 2009 in Boots

Lionel Messi, who recently won the Ballon d’Or was spotted wearing a brand new F50i colourway this weekend when Barcelona played Real Madrid. The white/navy/gold colourway will be worn exclusively by the Argentinean. Unfortunately this colourway will not be available in South Africa.

DO YOU REALLY WANT TO WIN THE BALLON D’OR?

Posted on Tuesday, November 10, 2009 in Soccer Life

Ballon d'Or

There is a lot of talk about who will win this years’ Ballon d’Or. Lionel Messi is the smart man’s bet. But does he really want to win it? If it were me, I’m not sure I would.
This is why:

Fabio Cannavaro, Ronaldinho, Andriy Shevchenko…

All these great players have won that little chunk of gold and then, seemed to gently float off the radar. Ronnie is having major issues trying to prove his worth to the Milan faithful, Cannavaro is resisting drug allegations and Shevo has gone back home to quietly close out his playing career.

Ronaldo won it last year which was followed by a big money move to his boyhood dream club to join another former winner in Kaka.
Both of these boys still have plenty to offer a side. They are nowhere near the depths that the likes of Ronnie have fallen to but they haven’t (yet) risen to such heights again either.
Ronaldo now sits out injured, after only just starting to hit some scoring form.
Kaka has had new life breathed into him and he may yet prove to be the exception to the rule.

The point is no-one so far seems to have been able to repeat the feat of Michel Platini who won it three years on the trot.

Messi, since a great display against Manchester United in the Champions League Final, hasn’t played his best football – by a long way! Is it the weight of the Ballon d’Or upon him? Maybe…

The Ballon d’Or is awarded to the player who has performed the best in the past calendar year. It is not awarded to the player who is going to perform best in the forthcoming calendar year. Good thing that! I don’t think many of the past winners would have got it that way!
