BOOT SPOTTING: NEW ADIZERO MAKES ITS DEBUT

We have really been looking forward to the new AdiZero and AdiZero Primes making their competitive debut. The word was that Lionel Messi would have worn them when the La Liga got back under way but the Argentinean sat out Barcelona’s first game and was in his Gold AdiZeros again this weekend. So it fell to Japanese playmaker Shinji Kagawa to give them their official on field debut when Japan played Jordan in the AFC Asian Cup.

The new AdiZeros did play in a competitive match when Borussia Dortmund’s Dimitar Rangelov wore them in a pre-season game. That was before the launch however so we don’t count that as an ‘official debut’. We wonder if Kagawa wearing them means that we can expect to see them this weekend in the domestic competitions.

Shinji Kagawa wore the leather version of the new AdiZero which is interesting as Adidas haven’t officially released a leather version of the Warning/Black colourway. Because these are still the ’standard’ AdiZero we will have to wait a little longer before the AdiZero Prime makes its official debut.
ADIDAS ADIZERO 5 STAR

The Adidas AdiZero has taken the football world by storms since their release. The AdiZero top scored at the World Cup last year and recently reclaimed the title of ‘lightest boot in the world’ with the release of the AdiZero Prime.
Now Adidas have switched their attention to American Football and have released the AdiZero 5 Star – the lightest American Football boot in the world. The 5 Star weighs more than its soccer sibling but is still a very respectable 195grams.

The name ‘5 Star’ comes from name given to be the best, elite players in the country. Only the top players in America have earned the right to be called ‘5 Star’ and we have no doubt that these AdiZeros will live up to their name.
There are some design changes on the 5 Star – which we think look great. We wonder whether these will make an appearance on a soccer field at some stage.
The exciting thing about the new AdiZero 5 Star is that there are rumored to be around 12 different colourways lined up. We look forward to seeing what colour combinations Adidas have instore for the upcoming releases.
NEW ADIDAS ADIZERO
Adidas have brought the new year with a bang as they unveil the new AdiZero.
Adidas have returned with their updated version of the AdiZero which features a new, improved SprintSkin upper with an engineered grain for enhanced ball control and touch. They retain the Sprint Frame and triangular Traxion studs for better support and grip aiding acceleration. The boots weigh the same as the previous incarnation: 165grams. Adidas have launched the boots with three colourways to choose from:
Black/White/Electricity

Warning/Black/White

Chrome/Black/Warning

NEW ADIDAS ADIZERO COLOURWAYS
Along with the new Predator X colourways, Adidas unveil three new AdiZero colourways.
We first spotted the new Intense Green/Pink/Black colourway this weekend when the likes of Gareth Bale and Emmanuel Adebayor (among others) debuted the new colourway. Wild, outrageous colourways and combinations seem to be dominating the market at the moment and these will certainly fit in well with the rest.

The Intense Green/Pink/Black AdiZero will be available in South Africa early December.

For those who enjoy a slightly less bold colourway, Adidas have released this Black/Black/Warning colourway. Fans definately enjoy blacked out boots and we expect these to do really well. It will be interesting to see which pros choose to sport this colourway.

Unfortunately the Black/Black/Warning colourway will not be available in South Africa.

The final colourway is our personal favourite. At TRW, we have a soft spot for white boots and Adidas have launched this stunning Lightning White/Cyan colourway. Simple, yet elegant. We think these will look great with any kit – especially the likes of Chelsea and Real Madrid.

Unfortunately the Lightning White/Cyan colourway will not be available in South Africa.

ADIDAS ADIZERO MESSI METALLIC GOLD/BLACK/WHITE

After their dominating showing at the World Cup, it is no wonder Adidas have released a Golden pair of AdiZero boots and who better to give them to as an exclusive colourway than Lionel Messi? The diminutive Argentinean is widely regarded as the world’s best player. The World Cup saw Messi in the Chameleon colourway – which has now become available to all the pros. And what hot property they have become!

Now Messi will once again be in his own colourway. The Metallic Gold/Black/White will look great with his Barcelona kit. You can expect to see this new colourway on Messi in early September.

ADIDAS ADIZERO COLOURWAY
Adidas have released two new colourways for the boot that is quickly becoming a players’ favourite. Its popularity has seen a meteoric rise after having been on the pitch for just a few weeks. Following up from the Sun/Black, Black/Sun and ‘Chameleon’ colourways, Adidas unveil the Cyan/White/Pink and White/Pink/Black colourways.
Not to be outdone by fellow speed boots, the AdiZero now comes in its own eye-catching colourways.
The first is the Cyan/White/Pink colourway. You can be sure that this combination will be a hit with players from the premier leagues to the Sunday kick-a-rounds.

The new White/Pink/Black colourway is both classy and funky.

Unfortunately this particular colourway will not be available in South Africa.
ADIDAS F50 ADIZERO: HOW THEY ARE MADE
Ever wondered how a boot is made? Well Adidas have given us a quick (and rather artistic look) behind the scenes at how the new F50 AdiZero is made.

UPDATE: F50 ADIZERO INSPIRES SCALEXTRIC F1 RACING
Adidas’ F50 AdiZero inspired Scalextric set has been a great hit in all the shopping centers they have been featured. Here is a quick look at the track they have set up.

After the much anticipated launch of the F50 AdiZero football boots last week, adidas has come up with an intelligent concept linking the lightest and fastest boots ever made with the fastest machine on four wheels, the F1 car. At the global launch of the F50 Lionel Messi and David Villa participated in a photo-shoot with custom made adidas F1 helmets and cars branded in F50 designs.

adidas South Africa has decided to follow this racing concept by promoting the F50 locally through the branded Scalextric race track and cars. These tracks will be set up at malls in Cape Town , Johannesburg and Durban from the 1st to the 7th June. The branding and colours of the F1 cars are symbolic of the yellow F50 boot which David Villa wears and the chameleon boot which Lionel Messi will play in at the 2010 Fifa World Cup™.

Racing and football enthusiasts are encouraged to come down to the Scalextric venues and try out the cars on the 4m x 4m track, and of course appreciate these celebrated boots. Although the cars may be somewhat different as they are actually in the shape of both AdiZero F50 boots, they are still as fast as any other car on a Scalextric truck. “The Scalextric racing concept is a way for adidas to showcase these incredible football boots to the public through its colourful designs and phenomenal uniqueness” said Zobuzwe Ngobese – adidas PR Manager.

Adidas recently launch the new F50 adiZero – the lightest boot ever made. It was released in three colourways: Black/Sun, Sun/Black and Leo Messi’s special ‘Chameleon’ colourway. They are also available in a leather version. Unfortunately, South Africa will only be bring in the Black/Sun leather version. (Which made it’s competitive debut in the Europa League final on the feet of Athletic Madrid striker, Diego Forlan.) All three colourways of the ’sprintskin’ version will however be available. You can the wear the 165gram boots for just R1599!

Director, Milan Lab, AC Milan.
Speed is essential in modern football, the most important factor in the game. I have been at AC Milan for twelve years and the speed of professional football has changed incredibly. The older players who were playing then like Clarence Seedorf have had to get quicker – despite getting older.
The simple fact is that if you are fast then you have a tremendous advantage over the other players. There are many other attributes to being a footballer, but speed is the one thing which unites the best.
Without speed, it’s now impossible to play at the highest level. Look at the players who are named the best in the world – they have one thing in common: speed. Lionel Messi is known for his explosive speed. It helps him get past players. At Milan, we have many fast players and it’s not just about straight running, but being technically fast and fast during different movements.
Speed is something which you are born with, but there are certain types of training regimes which can help you stay fast for longer. The players here do a lot of work at the Milan lab in the gym and we do most things with the ball. Players sprint with the ball to simulate game conditions. We look at strength, co-ordination and the overall physical and mental well being of players. And good, light, boots are important too. In the past, football boots have hindered movement. Now, boots like the F50 are fantastic for fast football.
