There is no lack of excitement surrounding the ‘smart boots’ but Adidas are have managed to make us even more excited with the release of two teaser videos ahead of their global on-pitch launch this weekend.

The first video features the man face of the Adidas AdiZero MiCoach silo Leo Messi while the second players from Ajax Amsterdam showing off some of the features the ‘smart boots’ have to offer.

Lionel Messi does not have his own official colourway but has exclusive wearing rights to this equally eye-catching Electrictity/Infrared/Anodized Purple colourway in LA LIGA.

The new AdiZero Primes weigh a remarkable 145grams thanks to Adidas’ new synthetic material for the upper known as adiLite Twin. It is thinner for saved weight but also gives an improved ball feel. The innovative Sprint Frame which debuted on the original AdiZero once again offers support for you foot. TPU Support Bands help keep the shape on your feet while the new enhanced grain on the upper helps with ball control.

Adidas have had a similar colourway available on MiAdidas for a little while and have now released it as an official colourway. We think this is a great looking colourway so we were disappointed to hear that they will receive very little on-field support. We think this colourway looks particularly good in the Prime version:

The other alternate colourway Adidas have released is this Black/Black/Electricity colourway:

Adidas released a Black/Black/Warning colourway for the previous AdiZero incarnation which were a commercial despite not receiving any on-field support. This colourway will also not receive any on-field support but we still expect them to do pretty well in stores.

The final colourway Adidas have launched will only be available as a Firm Ground Leather version. Along with the more conservative Black/Black/Electricity colourway Adidas have released this Lightning White/Infrared colourway:

Unfortunately none of these colourways will be available in South Africa.

Adidas South Africa will be ranging this new colourway in all three options; ‘Standard’ AdiZero, AdiZero Leather and AdiZero Prime. There has been a bit of confusion about the three types of AdiZeros so we thought we would break them down to help you distinguish between the three boots.

The AdiZero Prime is the flagship AdiZero boot and competes with the likes of the Nike Elite range. The Primes weigh an incredible 145g – which is 20g less then the previous AdiZero and 5g lighter than the Puma v1.10 SL. This makes them the lightest production boot in the world.

Adidas have reduced the weight of the Adizero Primes by using a new thinner, single-layer, synthetic material upper called adiLite Twin. Also unique to the Primes is the TPU Bottom Frame. The bottom frame (the Cyan strip along the bottom) offers lateral stability and support, transfers forces from the outsole to the upper and offers protection against upper abrasion.

The lightweight Sprint Frame outsole which is engineered to offer stability through geometry and lightweight materials as well as the innovative Traxion stud system (shaped for maximum acceleration, and spaced to provide support during movement and give improved directional grip) returns on all three boots.

The AdiZero Primes upper can be so thin (and therefore light) thanks to the Internal TPU Support Bands, which offer lateral stability and support and they maintain the boots’ shape – this is also featured on the standard version but not the leather version.

Not too much has changed on the new ‘standard’ F50 Adizero compared to the previous incarnation. Adidas have improved the SprintSkin upper by making it thinner and lighter than the previous model which also features an engineered grain for enhanced ball control and touch. The ‘standard’ AdiZeros weigh 165grams – which is still an impressive feat!

The leather edition AdiZeros are obviously a bit heavier (an impressive 175g) but are still one of the lightest leather boots available. The release of a leather version of the AdiZero has been a great success as it has allowed a host of traditional leather boot wearers (such as Manchester City’s David Silva) to wear a light weight performance speed boot.

This new colourway will undoubtedly be a big hit with boot fans and they have already made their on field debut when Real Madrid striker Emmanuel Adebayor snuck onto the field in pair last weekend. (They do look great with the Real Madrid kit!) We expect to see this new colourway this weekend on the likes of Ashley Young, David Villa and Jermain Defoe to sport this new colourway.

A pair of Adidas AdiZero Prime boots will set you back R2999 while a pair of SG ’standard’ AdiZero boots will cost R1999. The FG version as well as the leather version retail for R1799.

Now Adidas have launched the finished ‘All Light. All Fast.’ viral and we must say it is a great video. Lionel Messi wears the AdiZero Prime which is interesting as it is well know that the little Argentinian prefers a leather upper.

The last viral features Arsenal and France star Samir Nasri showcasing the standard AdiZero:

First up is this Purple/White/Cyan AdiZero colourway. Adidas released a pair of the previous AdiZero in a similar White/Night Sky/Cyan colour combination – which we spotted in the Premier League on West Bromwich Albion’s Jerome Thomas.

We are really disappointed that the second AdiZero colourway is for ladies. This White/Black/Cyan/Electricity colourway look awesome and we wouldn’t be surprised at all if a Premier League player gives these a try.

Next is the two colourways for the Predator X. The smooth looking White/Blue/Acid Buzz colourway will certainly be a hit. The Women’s Predator X is the same boot as the men’s version with one or two small adjustments – for example it has a smaller heel and is slightly thinner.

The second Predator X colourway is this New Navy/Acid Buzz/Splash colourway. This is possibly the least feminine colourway but they still look great.

The last boot is this White/New Navy/Argentina Blue AdiPure IV colourway. Of all the boots we have featured our favorite is the White/Black/Cyan/Electricity AdiZero colourway but these come in a close second.

Unfortunately none of these colourways will be available in South Africa.

The RS7 takes all the elements that made the AdiZero such a success in soccer but added some rugby specific extras. It is the lightest rugby boot on the market and boost technology such as:

• Upper: SPRINTSKIN crafted upper. SPRINTSKIN is a revolutionary single-layer synthetic for that incredible wear and reduced weight. This, along with TPU support bands, sprint frame exchangeable screw-in studs and aggressive colors, will dominate the rugby pitch.
• Specs: Synthetic print added to medial forefoot is to increase control when kicking. The TPU bottom frameframe reinforces the upper and prevents abrasion in the kicking area. Inlay is crafted with the ultralight sockliner in the shoe.
• Outsole: A new Traxion stud shape for maximum acceleration and speed on soft and wet surfaces. Mix of molded Traxion studs and exchangeable aluminum studs. The sprint frame construction uses geometrical learnings and a new stud shape to offer the perfect balance between light weight and stability.

The RS7 was released in two colourways; Radiant Red/White and Intense Green/White. We think they look great despite being just a single color. We look forward to seeing what colourways Adidas release in the future.

We knew the whole League wouldn’t switch to the new version in the first weekend. There were however a few players who we thought would have appeared in the new version but didn’t. Chelsea’s Nikolas Anelka was the first. The French striker was in a pair of Cyan/White/Pink for Chelsea’s game against Blackburn Rovers.

Asamoah Gyan helped earn Sunderland a point in the Wear-Tyne derby. The Ghanaian star was in a rather new looking pair of launch Sun/Black/Gold colourway boots. Gyan has been wearing the White/Black/Radiant Pink colourway.

Aston Villa’s Stewart Downing has been in F50 boots for as long as we can remember so it came as a surprise to us that he was still in a pair of Intense Green/Black/Pink boots.

Downing’s team mate Barry Bannan (right) was in a pair of the new AdiZeros. Bannan came off the bench in a pair of Black/White/Electricity AdiZeros.

The Black/White/Electricity colourway looked great on the pitch and were also worn by Tottenham Hotspur fullback Alan Hutton (right).

If there was one kit that the Warning/Black/White colourway was going to look awesome with, it was Blackpool’s tangerine strip. Luke Varney couldn’t stop Blackpool slumping to a defeat but he certainly lost with style.

Stoke City’s Tuncay has been trying to catch the eye of other clubs as he angles for a move away from the Britannia. Most managers will be looking at his on field performance but Tuncay certainly caught our eye in the new Warning/Black/White colourway.

We were looking forward to Manchester United’s trip to White Heart Lane all weekend – mainly because we knew there would be a shot like this:

With Gareth Bale playing on the left and Nani on duty on United’s right flank, these two were always going to run past each other. It was interesting to see the different choice of boots despite both donning the Warning/Black/White colourway. Nani was in the leather version while Bale is our first Prime boot spot.

Our final boot spot from the Premier League is another pair of Primes – this time however with a little customization. Chelsea striker Salomon Kalou opted for the Warning/Black/White Prime colourway but seemed to like the laces from the Black/White/Electricity colourway more. The Warning colourway doesn’t need any help catching ones eye but the laces certainly made them even harder to miss.

The final two boot spots come from the Spanish La Liga. It wouldn’t have been right to have a dedicated bonus AdiZero boot spotting without including two of the boots biggest names. All confusion and speculation was put to bed when Lionel Messi wore a leather version of the Warning/Black/White colourway AdiZero while his striker partner David Villa chose a leather version of the Black/White Electricity colourway.

Adidas will surely want Messi to be in the Prime version but that would be a surprise to us as it is well know that the recently crowned Ballon d’Or Player of the Year prefers to wear leather boots. We know for certain that Messi will be in the Warning/Black/White colourway but Adidas didn’t unveil a leather version of the Warning/Black/White colourway initially. That left us a little puzzled and we were even more confused when players kept popping up in leather Warning/Black/White AdiZeros.

Well we can officially reveal that Adidas will defiantly be releasing a leather version of the Warning/Black/White colourway. And we wouldn’t be surprised if these are what Leo turns out in come the weekend. Be sure to check out our boot spot on Monday to see who switches over to the new AdiZero and AdiZero Prime!

We have really been looking forward to the new AdiZero and AdiZero Primes making their competitive debut. The word was that Lionel Messi would have worn them when the La Liga got back under way but the Argentinean sat out Barcelona’s first game and was in his Gold AdiZeros again this weekend. So it fell to Japanese playmaker Shinji Kagawa to give them their official on field debut when Japan played Jordan in the AFC Asian Cup.

The new AdiZeros did play in a competitive match when Borussia Dortmund’s Dimitar Rangelov wore them in a pre-season game. That was before the launch however so we don’t count that as an ‘official debut’. We wonder if Kagawa wearing them means that we can expect to see them this weekend in the domestic competitions.

Shinji Kagawa wore the leather version of the new AdiZero which is interesting as Adidas haven’t officially released a leather version of the Warning/Black colourway. Because these are still the ’standard’ AdiZero we will have to wait a little longer before the AdiZero Prime makes its official debut.
