adidas Presents The Official Match Balls For The 2010/11 UEFA Club Competitions
- New design and proven technology for Europe’s elite –
Adidas have unveiled the Official Match Balls to be used during the 2010/11 UEFA Champions League, UEFA Europa League and UEFA Super Cup tournaments. The UEFA Super Cup ball will be used during tomorrow’s clash between F.C. Internazionale Milano and Club Atlético de Madrid. Tomorrow’s UEFA Super Cup game marks the second successive occasion where adidas and UEFA celebrate the official kick-off of the new international club football season with a specially designed UEFA Super Cup ball.
The Finale 10 – The Official Match Ball for the 2010/11 UEFA Champions League Season
WE have already had a look at the new UEFA Champions League ball here:. But here is a reminder. The design of the Finale 10, the Official Match Ball for the 2010/11 UEFA Champions League season, builds on the tradition of the iconic UEFA star ball logo. The Finale 10, which is now ten years into its development, features the emblematic design colours of the UEFA Champions League making it a true icon of the tournament. The adidas Finale 10 is the first season ball on which the famous UEFA Champions League star panel shape is integrated in the technology of the ball.
The variation of blue shades, ranging from a dark midnight blue on the outside of the stars, to a lighter blue in the star centre, is combined with traditional black and white on the borders. In line with adidas’ continued advancements in ball technology, the ‘Finale’ lettering demonstrates a subtle, yet sophisticated modernization to the ball.
All games from the play-off round to the semi-finals will be played with the adidas Finale 10. The match ball for the UEFA Champions League Final in London’s Wembley Stadium, on May 28th, 2011, will be unveiled at the beginning of next year.
The Official Match Ball for the 2010/11 UEFA Europa League
As the Official Match Ball supplier for the UEFA Europa League since the commencement of the tournament, adidas developed the Official Match Ball in line with the visual language of the logo and brand colours of the competition.
Integrated into the official UEFA Europa League ball is the adidas exclusive and industry-leading “Grip’n’Groove” profile technology which guarantees the truest ball flight under all conditions. The adidas “Grip’n’Groove” technology has been successfully implemented on the Official Match Balls for the first divisions in Russia, Argentina, Japan and the USA, in addition to the recently launched Official Match Ball for the new German League season, the Torfabrik. The adidas “Grip’n’Groove” technology is a technology which will continue to be used throughout these leagues during the 2010/11 season.
All games of the UEFA Europa League – including the Final in Dublin on May 18th, 2011 – will be played with the new ball. The adidas Finale 10 and the 2010/11 UEFA Europa League ball have been available at retail worldwide since July 1st.
The Official Match Ball for the UEFA Super Cup 2010
Following the successful launch of the first Official Match ball for the UEFA Super Cup in 2009, adidas will continue to offer a specially designed ball to mark the prestigious occasion. The design of the ball takes inspiration from the colours of the UEFA Super Cup logo, as well as the colours of the respective teams competing in the game – F.C. Internazionale Milano and Club Atlético de Madrid. As with the UEFA Europa League Ball, the UEFA Super Cup ball features the industry-leading “Grip’n’Groove” technology.
The ball will take to the field on Friday, August 27th, 2010 when the winners of last season’s UEFA Champions League, F.C. Internazionale Milano, meet the winners of last season’s UEFA Europa League, Club Atlético de Madrid, at the Stade Louis II in Monaco. The ball will be sold in selected retail outlets throughout Europe and exclusively at the UEFA Super Cup in Monaco, making it a true collector’s item.

- adidas will offer a high-quality product range worldwide featuring the insignia of the UEFA Champions League and UEFA Europa League.

- adidas will be on site throughout cities in Europe before every match in support of the UEFA Europa League, hosting a number of events for fans and promoting the season’s merchandise.
ADIDAS ADIZERO MESSI METALLIC GOLD/BLACK/WHITE
After their dominating showing at the World Cup, it is no wonder Adidas have released a Golden pair of AdiZero boots and who better to give them to as an exclusive colourway than Lionel Messi? The diminutive Argentinean is widely regarded as the world’s best player. The World Cup saw Messi in the Chameleon colourway – which has now become available to all the pros. And what hot property they have become!
Now Messi will once again be in his own colourway. The Metallic Gold/Black/White will look great with his Barcelona kit. You can expect to see this new colourway on Messi in early September.
NEW AJAX ADIDAS HOME AND AWAY KIT
Adidas has given Ajax Cape Town a new look home and away kit for the 2010/2011 season. The new kit –which the team will use for the first time next weekend in a MTN8 Cup match –was unveiled at a function in Canal Walk, Cape Town.
The most significant features of the new Ajax Cape Town jersey is the Andreas cross on the chest, a round collar instead of V-collar and the red band on the shirt is now split by white planes on the shoulders.
“The Ajax Cape Town jersey is a continuation of the proud tradition at Ajax Amsterdam which has seen us produce a unique, world class home jersey every season without deviating from the traditions of the club. However, the away jersey at Ajax is always different and this season we have come up with the bold blue and electricity colorway,” says Kevin Jooste, the Football Category Manager at adidas South Africa.
Both jerseys feature climacool technology- a combination of performance fabrics, open mesh and ventilation channels which keep cool air flowing in and heat and sweat flowing out. Climacool works by considering how and where the body produces heat and sweat, and focus’s specific fabric and garment features in those zones. The effect is that athletes stay dry, comfortable and perform at their peak in even the most heated competitions.

NEW CHELSEA THIRD KIT BY ADIDAS
Today adidas and Chelsea are revealing the team’s new 3rd kit for this season.
The new green, black, and blue kit once again features adidas TechFit™ technology which enhances muscle performance. The kit has a contemporary design with mesh integrated into the main body of the jersey. The finished fabric helps create a striking design with the performance benefit of wicking sweat away from the body.
TechFit™ – On the field, the players’ kits will incorporate adidas’ cutting edge TechFit™ technology, to help improve speed, increased endurance capabilities and enhanced muscle focus proprioception. This works by stabilizing and focusing the muscles’ energy to generate explosive acceleration and deliver maximum power output
Climacool -The shirts also feature adidas ClimaCool™ technology, a mixture of heat and moisture controlling materials, ventilation channels and 3D fabrics which improve air flow to the skin in the key heat zones.
ADIDAS LYON AWAY AND THIRD KITS
Olympique Lyon Away and Third 2010/11 kits
Olympique Lyon announced earlier this year that Adidas would be their new official kit supplier and we believe they have done a great job. Football kits are not known for their outrageous colourways and detailing but Lyon and Adidas have gone all out this time. With a similar feel to the Russian kit, the new Lyon away shirt is burgundy, with a purple/pink pattern adorning the front of the jersey. This is accented by a gold; collar, the club badge and Adidas branding.
The new Third kit’s colouring is more traditional in it’s light blue. The jersey is just as eye-catching and unique with it’s navy and red stripes running around the front and back. The look is finished off nicely with the sides and sleeves of the shirt in a dark navy, with red panels on the underarm and the Adidas branding in white. This kit will be used mostly in Europe were Lyon have had recent success. The French side reached the semi-final stages in last years’ competition.
ADIDAS ORLANDO PIRATES HOME AND AWAY KIT
adidas unveils new Orlando Pirates jersey
Adidas has given Orlando Pirates a new look home and away kit for the 2010/2011 season which kicks off with the Telkom Charity Cup this weekend.
The most significant feature of the new Orlando Pirates jersey is the return to a clean, classic look which includes a collar for the first time in many seasons.
“For the home jersey -we took inspiration from previous Orlando Pirates jerseys –particularly the very first jersey donned by the club in 1937 –which featured a white collar. More importantly, we had a lot of close interaction with the club to make sure that we produce a world class product for a world class club,” says Kevin Jooste, the Football Category Manager at adidas South Africa.
However, adidas and the club also wanted to do something bold and unexpected and the two parties used the away jersey to achieve this.
“This away jersey will have a strong appeal to those who want something beyond the traditional –incorporating red stripes on white,” adds Jooste.

ADIDAS UMU LEGACY AUCTION
Own a piece of exclusive South Africa football history

Adidas launches the Unite Mzansi Unite (UMU) Legacy auction, an exclusive opportunity for people all over the world to own framed signatures of prominent South Africans who signed the giant adidas Bafana Bafana jersey in support of the UMU campaign. The auction is the final phase of the UMU campaign which managed to mobilise millions of South Africans to support the 2010 FIFA World Cup™ and the South African national football team –Bafana Bafana.
The prominent personalities who signed the giant adidas Bafana Bafana jersey (60 metres by 48 metres) had their signatures framed for the auction which kicks off on eBay tomorrow.
“As the world’s leading football brand, it was very important for us to leave a legacy after the World Cup that has a positive impact on South Africans. We therefore decided to select signatures from prominent South Africans who signed the jersey and we have had their signatures framed for people to purchase on ebay in order to raise funds for 46664,” says Deborah Miller, the Senior Communications Manager at adidas South Africa.
The list of framed signatures from prominent South Africans includes:
- Helen Zille (former Mayor of Cape Town and current Premier of the Western Cape Province)
- Danny Jordaan (Chief Executive of the Local Organising Committee of the 2010 FIFA World Cup™
- Lucas Radebe (former Bafana Bafana captain and adidas ambassador)
- Aaron Mokoena (current Bafana Bafana captain)
- Matthew Booth (current Bafana Bafana defender and World Cup squad member)
- Siphiwe Tshabalala (current Bafana Bafana midfielder and the scorer of the opening goal of the tournament)
- John Smit (current captain of the South African Rugby team)
- Graeme Smith (current captain of the South African Cricket team) and
- Baby Jake Matlala (former Boxing World champion).
President Jacob Zuma and Deputy President Kgalema Motlanthe are expected to throw their weight behind the campaign in the near future. The framed pieces of the jersey represent more than just the 2010 FIFA World Cup™, they represent a moment in South African history when the nation came together to host the maiden and most memorable World Cup on African soil.
“People around the world can bid on eBay to own a piece of this framed jersey highlighting the legacy part of the UMU campaign and supporting 46664. The giant jersey was a significant tool in the adidas’ UMU campaign because it was central in uniting South Africans behind the World Cup and the National team – Bafana Bafana,” adds Miller.
The massive yellow jersey toured the rest of South Africa over seven months:
- covering a distance of 27, 000 kilometres,
- visiting more than 300 towns and villages and
- passing through all 9 provinces South Africa and
- all the host cities receiving an overwhelming welcome along the way.
Each framed piece of the jersey is 1020mm wide by 840mm high and will be auctioned via http://members.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewUserPage&userid=adidasumulegacy. The auction will run for ten days and all proceeds go to the Nelson Mandela 46664 Foundation and adidas is encouraging everyone to contribute to this worthy cause.
NEW ADIDAS AMAZULU KIT
Adidas have unveiled Durban based football club, AmaZulu’s new home and away jerseys which the club will wear during the 2010/11 Premier Soccer League season.
‘Usuthu’ as they are called, finished 8th in the PSL (Premier Soccer League) last season.
Adidas officially presented the jerseys to AmaZulu chairman Patrick Sokhela at the club’s 2010 Awards evening in Durban on Friday.
ADIDAS PREDATOR X BECKHAM
During the World Cup, David Beckham was spotted training in a pair of red Predator X boots. Well Adidas have now launched the new Adidas Predator X Beckham Football Boots – Collegiate Red/White.
These boots would have looked amazing with the England kit (as they would with his old Manchester United kit…) and it is a pity we didn’t get to see him wear them in South Africa.
