BOOT SPOTTING 11-12 MAY

Posted on Monday, May 13, 2013 in Boot Spotting

The penultimate weekend of the Premier League was an emotional one for many as Sir Alex and Paul Scholes bif farewell to Old Trafford and David Moyes and Phil Neville waved goodbye to Goodison. But this article is about boots and there was plenty of interesting boot on show on the Premier Leagues 2nd to last weekend.

Frank Lampard – Chelsea – Adidas AdiPure 11Pro

There certainly aren’t many players left wearing AdiPure 11Pro boots. Adidas’ ‘heritage’ boot is made to be a simple yet classy boot. They are a boot that suit Frank Lampard and the Chelsea star has worn the AdiPure silo since their release. Lampard became Chelsea’s highest goal scorer moving past Bobby Tambling.

Rio Ferdinand – Manchester United – Nike T90 Laser IV

Manchester United bid farewell to Sir Alex Ferguson at Old Trafford on Sunday – before lifting the trophy after securing their 20th League title. United wanted to give Fergie a winning goodbye and it took a late winner from Rio Ferdidnand – his first goal in 5 years – to ensure Fergie ended his Old Trafford career on a high.

rio-ferdinand-man-utd

Kevin Mirallas – Everton – Nike Mercurial Vapor IX

With David Moyes being confirmed as Sir Alex’ successor, Everton fans had an opportunity to say thank you to their long serving manager.  A brace from Kevin Mirallas ensured Moyes’ last game at Goodison ended on a high with victory over West Ham.

Hatem Ben Arfa – Newcastle – Adidas AdiZero f50

With United receiving the trophy and City all but confirmed as runners up, the only questions left are who will finish 3rd and 4th and who will be relegated with Reading and QPR. Newcastle moved away from that battle with victory over QPR thanks to the scoring return of Hatem Ben Arfa. Ben Arfa was sorely missed by the Magpies this season and the Toon will hope they can hang onto their star midfielder now that he is back.

hatem-ben-arfa-newcastle

Steven Caulker – Tottenham Hotspur – Puma King

A London club will finish 3rd and 4th, which two however is the question. Spurs have the most to do but victory over Stoke helped keep their hopes alive. Spurs will be desperate to make the Champions League and hang onto their better players. Steven Caulker has impressed in the heart of Spurs’ defence and the youngster certainly has a bright future ahead.

Cheik Tiote – Newcastle – Nike CTR360 Maestri III

We have been keeping an eye on Nike players and the large amount of silo switching that has been happening within the brand of late. Newcastle’s Cheik Tiote is the latest to switch silo. Having previously worn Tiempo Legend boots, Tiote this weekend wore the Mint CTR360 Maestri III – and the colourway certainly looked good with his Newcastle away kit!

cheik-tiote-newcastle

Joe Hart – Manchester City – Umbro Speciali 4

The FA Cup is always a special occasion. It is no surprise then that a few players had some special boots for the occasion. Umbro recently handed Joe Hart an exclusive pair of white-out Speciali 4 boots and Geometra Pro GK gloves – these both featured FA Cup embroidery for the special day. Unfortunately for Joe (and Umbro) City weren’t able to stop the Wigan fairytale.

Mladen Petric – Fulham – Adidas Predator LZ miAdidas

We are becoming big fans of Fulham’s Mladen Petric. The Croatian forward has worn a number of custom Predator LZ colourways this season and was sporting a new Orange/White colourway this weekend.

mladen-petric-fulham

Alfred N’Diaye – Sunderland – Mizuno Morelia Neo

With so few Mizuno wearers in the Premier League we can be excused for getting exciting whenever we spot a player in a pair. Alfred N’Diaye has featured here before but this weekend finds himself back in out boot spot article after wearing an unreleased Orange/Blue Morelia Neo colourway. As Mizuno are not know for their custom colourways like Nike and Adidas we assume this is the next official Neo colourway from the Japanese brand.

BOOT SPOTTING 4-5 MAY

Posted on Monday, May 6, 2013 in Boot Spotting

Monday is all about debating the controversial moments over the weekend but more importantly – about checking out some of the boots that were on show.

Paul Scholes – Manchester United – Nike T90 Laser IV

The season is drawing to a close and with that, the career of Paul Scholes (again). The United midfielder has seen his season fizzle out due to injuries but with a return to fitness, the player many think is one of the best midfielders of his generation, Scholes will be hoping to hang up his Nike T90 Laser IV boots on a high.

paul-scholes-man-utd

Nikica Jelavic – Everton – Warrior Skreamer

Spotting Nikica Jelavic in Warrior Skreamer boots is not a new thing after the Everton striker switched into a pair a few months ago. What we haven’t seen yet is any confirmation from Warrior that he is wearing their boots officially. It is a big plus for the American brand if he is wearing them purely because he think s they are a great boot.

nikica-jelavic-everton

Thomas Ince – Blackpool – Unknown

While on the subject of Warrior boots… Blackpool winger Thomas Ince was spotted in an interesting pair of boots this past weekend. We have already seen prototypes from Adidas, Nike and Puma so there isn’t a lot left to choose from. Some of the detailing reminds us of the current Warrior Skreamer and we wonder if we will see young Ince in the Premier League next season – in a new Warrior boot.

thomas-ince-blackpool

Sergio Aguero – Manchester City – Puma evoSPEED 1.2 Camo

There were prototype boots in the Premier League as well. Although the Camo will be released (in limited numbers) it is still theoretically a prototype of the soon to be released evoSPEED 1.2 – Puma’s next generation speed boot. Sergio Aguero gave the eye-catching colourway its debut this weekend – but can’t give it a scoring debut.

sergio-augero-man-city07

Gareth Bale – Tottenham Hotspur – Adidas AdiZero f50

Gareth Bale has been one of the outstanding performers this season. The Welsh winger has proven to be Spurs’ match-winner on numerous occasions and was so again this weekend. Spurs are desperate to hang on to the winger as will be Adidas as Bale’s profile will only increase as his career progresses.

gareth-bale-spurs

Lukas Podolski – Adidas AdiZero f50

Podolski featured last week after he was spotted training in the new Infrared/White/Black AdiZero colourway. He didn’t debut them in the League last weekend and this weekend opted for his own custom White/Pink colourway as well.

lukas-podolski-arsenal

Hugo Rodallega – Fulham – Nike Mercurial Vapor IX CR

Cristiano Ronaldo’s signature colourways have often proven to be big hits with players in the Premier League. Most noticeably Fulham’s Hugo Rodallega who has worn most of the Real Madrid stars signature boots including his latest.

BOOT SPOTTING 27-28 APRIL

Posted on Monday, April 29, 2013 in Boot Spotting

The title is over but the Premier League season still has a few weeks left and that means we still have some great boot spots to look forward to. Here are the highlights from this past weekend.

Seamus Coleman – Everton – Nike CTR360 Maestri III

Last week we highlighted the fact that many Nike athletes are switching silos and we continued to notice this trend this weekend – this time with Everton’s Seamus Coleman. Coleman has been in Tiempo Legend IV boots for much of the season but has opted for CTR360 boots recently.

seamus-coleman-everton

Jobi McAnuff – Reading – Nike Tiempo Legend IV

Reading’s Jobi McAnuff went the other way. Having previously turned out in CTR360 boots, McAnuff was in Tiempo Legend IV boot this weekend. The Reading star has also worn Mercurial Vapor IX boots this season – we wonder if he is working his way through all the silos and can be expect to turn out in the T90 soon.

jobi-mcanuff-reading

Tom Huddlestone – Tottenham Hotspur – Nike Tiempo Legend IV

Tom Huddlestone has enjoyed a bit more game time for Spurs in recent weeks. The England midfielder has impressed since his return from injury. Huddlestone was once a Puma PowerCat wearer but has worn a number of different boots this season. He does now seem to have settled into the Tiempo Legend IV now though.

tom-huddlestone-spurs

Fabio Borini – Liverpool – Nike CTR360 Maestri III

Having lost Luis Saurez for the next 10 games, Liverpool will be glad to welcome back Italian forward Fabio Borini. Borini has spent most of the season out with an injury but marked his return with a goal for the Reds.

fabio-borini-liverpool

Mladen Petric – Fulham – Adidas Predator LZ

We love a custom boot colourway here at TRW – almost as much as we love a boot/kit match. Fulham’s Mladen Petric made our day then we match a Black/White MiAdidas Predator LZ to his Fulham kit this weekend.

mladen-petric-fulham

Lukas Podolski – Arsenal – Adidas AdiZero MiCoach

We were looking forward to featuring Arsenal forward Lukas Podolski in the next AdiZero f50 colourway after he was spotted breaking them in during training. Instead the German star turned in an old pair of White/Lime/Onix AdiZero MiCoach boots.

lukas-podolski-arsenal

David Silva – Manchester City – Adidas AdiZero MiCoach

Robin van Persie’s boots have been a hot topic all season with the Dutch forward remaining in AdiZPower Predator boots all season. Manchester City’s David Silva has slipped under the radar slightly having not drawn as much attention despite wearing the previous generation AdiZero MiCoach all season.

david-silva-man-city

Demba Ba – Chelsea – Adidas AdiZero MiCoach

The Silver/Infrared AdiZero MiCoach was a huge hit and like Silva, Chelsea’s Demba Ba also spent much of this season in the older generation AdiZero. Ba looks to have moved on now however having match the current Blue/White/Pink colourway perfectly with is Chelsea kit.

BOOT SPOTTING 20-21 APRIL

Posted on Monday, April 22, 2013 in Boot Spotting

It’s Monday and the Premier League title race is almost over with victory for Manchester United confirming them as champions. However it’s the weekend’s action that has produced our latest crop of boot spots.

Christopher Samba – Queens Park Ranger – Nike Tiempo Legend IV

We have noticed a trend developing in the Premier League recently. A while ago Nike looked to switch players into specific boots for specific positions. We wonder if a similar thing is happening again as a number of players have switched from the CTR360 silo in to the Tiempo silo. QPR defender Chris Samba has been a CTR wearer since their launch but now looks to be a Tiempo wearer.

christopher-samba-qpr

Ki Sung-Yeung – Swansea – Nike Tiempo Legend IV

The Tiempo range has always produced very reserved colourways but recent releases such as the Blue/White and current Sunburst/Crimson have certainly been a lot more eye-catching. We wonder if this more colourful approach has helped the heritage silo gain popularity.  Or perhaps Nike are pushing defenders into the Tiempo as Swansea’s Sung-Yeung joined Samba in switching from the CTR silo.

ki-sung-yeung-swansea

John Obi Mikel – Chelsea – CTR360 Maestri III

A couple out, a couple in. It’s not only about losing players to the Tiempo as it seems the CTR range has gained a few players. John Obi Mikel has been a T90 Laser IV wearer for much of his career but is looks as though the Chelsea star will be a CTR wearer from now on.

john-obi-mikel-chelsea

Pablo Zabaleta – Manchester City – Nike T90 Laser IV

Nike launched the T90 Laser IV in September 2011 and gave them a significant update in September 2012 when they released the first T90 to feature ACC. They were released in a bold Crimson/Black colourway – one which Man City’s Pablo Zabaleta seems to be a fan of as the City defender has worn them since their launch.

pablo-zabaleta-man-city

James McClean – Sunderland – Nike Mercurial Vapor IX

Someone in the latest Blue/Volt Vapor IX is hardly a boot spot – unless it is James McClean. The Sunderland winger has worn countless special edition and custom boots recently that it is almost surprising to see him wearing a standard colourway. McClean doesn’t wear a boot for long so we look forward to seeing what he does next!

james-mcclean-sunderland

Chico Flores – Swansea – Nike Mercurial Vapor IX

McClean isn’t the only one capable of designing his own boots. Swansea’s Chico Flores traded in his Pink/White Vapor IX boots – which needed an update – for a fresh looking custom colourway.  The custom colourway is very similar to the Platinum/Black/Green colourway but with a Green tick on the nose.

chico-flores-swansea

Vincent Kompany – Manchester City – Warrior Skreamer S-Lite

Due to injury, Vincent Kompany has only played a handful of games for Warrior Sports since signing for theAmerican company. Warrior unveiled Kompany as an athlete claiming he would wear the new Spicy Orange/Blue Baja colourway Skreamer but Kompany spent his first few games in the launch Blue Radiance/Bright Marigold colourway. This weekend however the City skipper was in the colourway after a delay we believe was caused by the need for some customization.

vincent-kompany-man-city

Jose Enrique – Liverpool – Adidas AdiZero MiCoach

We are not sure what it is about the latest edition of the AdiZero that Jose Enrique doesn’t like but the Liverpool fullback seems determined to wear them. Having previously worn the Anodized Purple/Electricity AdiZero II colourway which was launched back in May 2011, Enrique ‘updated’ his boots this weekend to the Blue/Energy AdiZero MiCoach – which was released in January 2012.

jose-enrique-liverpool

Billy Jones – West Bromwich Albion – Adidas AdiZero MiCoach

The White/Lime/Onix AdiZero MiCoach colourway was a major hit with fans and it seems with Billy Jones as well. The West Brom defender has worn the stylish colourway for most of the season and we wonder how many pairs he has stored up in his cupboard.

billy-jones-west-brom

Ricardo Vaz Te – West Ham – Adidas AdiZero MiCoach, AdiZero F50

It is not often we see a playering wearing two different boots (unless he is Benoit Assou-Ekotto…) but this weekend West Ham forward Ricardo Vaz Te mixed and matched the old with the new as he wore an AdiZero MiCoach boot on the left and the current AdiZero F50 on his right.

ricardo-vaz-te-west-ham

Kevin Nolan – West Ham – Puma King

Our last boot spot is more of a congratulations than it is a boot spot. West Ham midfielder Kevin Nolan scored his 100th career goal this weekend. The West Ham star has never been a flashy boot wearer, always opting for the simplest and (mostly black) colourways. Nolan is the only player in the Premier League wearer Puma’s Black/White/Red King colourway but proves you don’t need flash boots to be successful.

BOOT SPOTTING 13-14 APRIL

Posted on Monday, April 15, 2013 in Boot Spotting

The football season is slowly coming to a close but until that (very sad day) we will continue to spend Monday morning brining you the very best boot spots from the Premier League. Here is our latest from this past weekend’s action:

Darren Bent – Aston Villa – Nike Tiempo Legend IV

It seems nothing is as good as Umbro for Darren Bent as the Aston Villa striker has been through all but one of Nike’s silos looking for a new boot. Bent began his Nike career after leaving Umbro wearing Vapor VIII boots before turning out in T90 Laser IVs last weekend. This weekend however it was the Tiempo IV – perhaps Bent was hoping matching Benteke’s boot choice would help him find the back of the net.

darren-bent-aston-villa

Danny Rose – Sunderland – Nike CTR360 Maesttri III

Danny Rose has enjoyed an impressive season on loan at Sunderland. The Spurs fullback spent most of the season in Adidas AdiZero MiCoach boots but this weekend updated his footwear with a pair of Nike CTR360 Maestri III boots.

danny-rose-sunderland

Robert Snodgrass – Norwich – Nike CTR360 Maestri III

Another player switching from AdiZeros to CTRs this weekend was Norwich winger Robert Snodgrass. Snodgrass decided to mix it up mid game however playing one half in AdiZeros and another in a pair of CTR360 Maestri III boots.

robert-snodgrass-norwich

Mark Bunn – Norwich – Nike Mercurial Vapor IX

Snodgrass wasn’t the only Norwich player switching boots however as Norwich number 1 Mark Bunn caught the eye in a pair of Vapor IX boots. Bunn previously wore Under Armour Hydrastrike boots but looks now to have joined Nike.

mark-bunn-norwich

Nemanja Vidic – Manchester United – Puma PowerCat 1.12

The Puma King has been a huge success with many players switching into Puma’s heritage/control boots. We were a little surprised to see United skipper Vidic move out of the PowerCat into the new King but it seems now that the big defender has returned to the power boot after wearing the PowerCat for the past few weeks.

nemanja-vidic-man-utd

Daniel Sturridge – Liverpool – Nike T90 Laser IV

It has taken a long time but it seems Daniel Sturridge has finally updated his boot colourway. The Liverpool forward has spent much of the season on the White/Green Euro T90 colourway but this weekend appeared in the latest Mango/Black/Crimson colourway.

daniel-sturridge-liverpool

Dimitar Berbatov – Fulham – Adidas Predator LZ

Fulham striker Dimitar Berbatov went the opposite way to Sturridge this weekend as the Bulgarian went back into an old pair of Black/Infrared LZ boots. Berbatov isn’t a fan of bright colourways and must be avoiding the Yellow/White colourway.

dimitar-berbatov-fulham

Steven Pienaar – Everton – Puma evoSPEED 1

It seems Steven Pienaar doesn’t particularly like Puma’s latest Orange/Blue evoSPEED 1 colourway. Although called ‘orange’ the colourway is more red and we wonder if the Everton/Liverpool rivalry has anything to do with it. Pienaar has been wearing a blacked-out version of the latest colourway but this weekend also went back into an old colourway, wearing a pair of Green/Blue boots.

steven-pienaar-everton

Adam Lallana – Southampton – Puma evoSPEED 1

It seems to take a while for all the Premier League players to switch into a new evoSPEED 1 colourway when they are released. One player who does keep up to date however is Southampton’s Adam Lallana. The current Orange/Blue colourway is probably the best match he has had to his kit so far.

BOOT SPOTTING 6-7 APRIL

Posted on Monday, April 8, 2013 in Boot Spotting

Weekends are never boring when the Premier League is around and Monday mornings are never boring when TRW’s boot spot arrive. This weekend produced plenty of interesting boot spots and we are here to bring you the highlights.

Emmanuel Adebayor – Tottenham Hotspur – Nike Mercurial Vapor IX

Spurs’ lanky striker scored the clubs quickest goal of the season scoring after just 35 seconds. Ade hasn’t enjoyed a prolific season but a change of boots looks to have brought a change of luck. An avid F50 wearer, Ade turned out this weekend in a pair if Vapor IX boots.

emmanuel-adebayor-spurs

Kenwyne Jones – Stoke City – Nike Mercurial Vapor IX

Jones wore Mizuno boots before switching to Adidas AdiZero boots. He now, like Adebayor, looks to have jumped to the German brands arch rivals. Jones also wore the new Neptune Blue Vapor IX this weekend for the first time.

kenwayne-jones-stoke

Mousa Dembele – Tottenham Hotspur – Nike Timepo Legend IV

Adebayor’s teammate Mousa Dembele also switched his boot this weekend, but to a lesser degree. Dembele stuck with the same brand but switched silos. Previously sporting CTR360 Maestri boots, Dembele opted for a pair of Tiempo Legend IV boots.

mousa-demeble-spurs

Darren Bent – Aston Villa – Nike T90 Laser IV

Darren Bent hasn’t seen a lot of action this season due to form and injury. He returned for Aston Villa this weekend in a pair of Nike T90 Laser IV boots. Bent was previously an Umbro boot wearer but joined the exodus to Nike when the brand was sold. Bent originally went into the Vapor VIII but now looks set to wear the brands power boot.

darren-bent-aston-villa

Jem Karacan – Reading – Nike CTR360 Maestri III

Reading’s Jem Karacan has slipped under out radar a little. The Turkish midfielder has worn a host of boots this season including Nike T90 Laser IV, Adidas Predator LZ and LZ SL boots and now this weekend turned out in the alternate White/Crimson/Black CTR360 Maestri III colourway – a colourway we didn’t expect to see much of on PL pitches.

jem-karacan-reading

Shane Long – West Bromwich Albion – Puma evoSPEED 1

West Brom’s Shane Long surprised us with his boot choice this weekend after he opted for a pair of ‘white-out’ Puma evoSPEED 1 boots. The White/Silver colourway is an official colourway but one that was not due to get any official on field support meaning the Irish forward must’ve gotten a pair himself.

shane-long-west-brom

Matthew Taylor – West Ham – Adidas Predator LZ

A black-out or white-out colourway usually spells the end of a boots lifespan when released by Adidas. With some interesting boots being tested by the likes of Steven Gerrard we don’t think it will be long before Adidas release a black-out LZ. Then Matty Taylor won’t have to take a marker to a pair of Black/Red LZ boots.

matthew-taylor-west-ham

Bobby Zamora – QPR – Under Armour Blur Carbon III

Despite a great looking, eye-catching Orange/Silver/Black launch colourway, Under Armour have made custom Blur Carbon III boots for all their athletes. Benoit Assou-Ekotto has a Gold/Black pair however Bobby Zamaro’s boots are a little more understated and feature a classy White/Black colourway.

bobby-zamora-qpr

Jonathan Walter – Stoke City – Adidas Predator LZ

Our final spot is more of a complaint than a boot spot… Jonathan Walters had us watching him every week last season as the Stoke forward wore a plethora of boots including Pantofola d’Oros. This season however his boot selection has been far more subdued – sticking mostly to the Predator LZ. We would like the old Walters back.

BOOT SPOTTING 30-31 MARCH

Posted on Monday, April 1, 2013 in Boot Spotting

After a short break for International friendlies and World Cup qualifiers, the Premier League returns and TRW is here to bring you the best boots spots from the weekend’s action. New Nike colourways made their Premier League debut, but they weren’t the only boots to catch the eye.

John O’Shea – Sunderland – Nike Tiempo Legend IV

Whenever a new boot collection is released by Nike, the chances are the Tiempo will be the most understated of the colourways. That is not the case this time however as Nike’s new Sunburst/Crimson Tiempo colourway certainly grabs the eye. They also looked pretty good with John O’Shea’s Sunderland kit.

john-o-shea-sunderland

Nathaniel Clyne – Southampton – Nike T90 Laser IV

Previous T90 colourways saw an interesting mix of colours splashed across the upper. Recent colourways have been a little simpler – but not less eye-catching! The previous Volt/Black colourway has now been replaced the equally bright Mango/Black/Crimson colourway worn by a host if players this weekend, such as Southampton’s Nathaniel Clyne.

nathaniel-clyne-southampton

Jonathan Howson – Norwich City – Nike CTR360 Maestri III
Arguably the best colourway of the collection is the Mint/Black/Lime CTR360 colourway. We are not surprised a host of players have jumped straight into the new colourway – and we expect a few to remain in them for a while to come. The fresh colourway looked great against the black Norwich kit on Jonathan Howson.

jonathan-howson-norwich

Kevin Mirallas – Everton – Nike Mercurial Vapor IX

Kevin Mirallas was one of the players giving the new Blue/Volt Vapor IX colourway a scoring debut as stars wore them for the first time in the Premier League. The Everton attacker struck for the Toffees to keep their hopes of finishing 4th alive.

kevin-mirallas-everton

Gervinho – Arsenal – Nike Mercurial Vapor IX

Arsenal trail 4th placed Chelsea by 2 points and hold a slender 2 point gap to Everton below them. A big result was needed against Wigan and Wenger’s men duly delivered – lead by Gervinho in a new pair of Blue/Volt Vapor IX boots.

gervinho-arsenal

Vincent Kompany – Manchester City – Warrior Skreamer S-Lite

Manchester City skipper Vincent Kompany was unveiled as a Warrior athlete a while ago but injury kept him playing a Premier League game in his new Skreamer S-Lite boots. We were told Kompany would wear the new Spicy Orange/Baja Bluecolourway but instead turned out in the launch Blue Radiance/Bright Marigold/Insignia Blue colourway.

vincent-kompany-man-city

Danny Graham – Sunderland – Warrior Skreamer K-Lite

Danny Graham played his first game as an official Warrior athlete this weekend and also surprised us with his choice of boots. Warrior confirmed Graham would wear the Black/Orange K-Lite version of the boot (which we wore a couple of weeks back) but Graham marked his official Warrior debut with a pair of Black-out K-Lite boots.

danny-graham-sunderland

Alfred N’Diaye – Sunderland – Mizuno Morelia Neo

There are not a lot of Mizuno boot wearers in the Premier League – something we would love to see change – so we always get excited when we do spot a pair! Sunderland’s Alfred N’Diaye has been in Nike CTR360 Maestri Iii boots for most of the season but pull out of Mizuno’s speed boots as the Black Cats took on Manchester United.

alfred-n-diaye-sunderland

Dan Gosling – Newcastle – Adidas adiPure 11Pro

Dan Gosling hasn’t enjoyed much game time due to a succession of injuries but when he does see minutes he does so in a pair of Adidas adiPure 11Pro boots. We were very interested to see his colourway choice this weekend however. Dan’s white-out Adidas boots are an official colourway but one that is given no on-field support – meaning Dan must’ve picked them up himself.

dan-gosling-newcastle

Youssouf Mulumbu – West Bromwich Albion – Nike Tiempo Legend IV

There are many reason why a player may swap boots at half time but we are pretty sure West Brom’s Youssouf Mulumbu wishes he hadn’t. Mulumbu started the game against Arsenal in a pair of Black/Volt Tiempo boots but saw red after the break having switched to a pair of Blue/White Tiempos.

youssouf-mulumbu-west-brom

Cristiano Ronaldo – Real Madrid – Nike Mercurial Vapor IX CR

Occasionally we go outside the boundaries of the Premier League to bring you a must see boot spot. One such occasion is certainly the debut of the new CR Nike Vapor IX. Ronaldo gave his new signature colourway as scoring debut as he showed off his bold new White/Volt/Crimson combination.

BOOT SPOTTING 16-17 MARCH

Posted on Monday, March 18, 2013 in Boot Spotting

Mondays here at TRW are always spent bantering about the weekend’s Premier League results – and of course discussing the weekend’s boots spots. Here are some of the best from the Premier League action this weekend:

Rio Ferdinand – Manchester United – Nike T90 Laser IV

Rio Ferdinand has grabbed headlines this week after he was recalled to the England squad for the first time under Roy Hodgson. Ferdinand put in another brilliant display for United this weekend including playing a major role in United’s goal.

rio-ferdinand-man-utd

Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain – Arsenal – Nike CTR360 Maestri III

‘The Ox’ got boot spotters excited this week about a possible boot switch after he was spotted training in a pair of Nike Vapor IX boots. The Arsenal winger has been a CTR360 wearer for all of his short career and, despite flirting with the Vapor, looks set to remain in the control boot for now.

alex-oxlade-chamberlain-arsenal

Liam Ridgwell – West Bromwich Albion – Nike CTR360 Maestri III

One player who has been involved in a boot switch is West Brom defender Liam Ridgwell. Ridgwell spent a lot of time in Puma King Finale SL boots but now looks to have signed with Nike having worn CTR360 Maestri III boots the past few weeks. The new King SL doesn’t seem to be as big a hit as the Finale SL was with most players opting for the standard version instead of the lightweight version.

liam-ridgewell-west-brom

Jack Cork – Southampton – Puma King

Jack Cork has become a fixture of Southampton’s midfield since his arrival from Chelsea. The young midfielder has spent most of the season in White/Red/Limoges Puma PowerCat boots. We were wondering when a colourway updated would happen for Cork but he seems he has opted for an entire boot switch rather having been spotted in a Puma King boots this weekend – once again however in an outdated colourway.

jack-cork-southampton

Winston Reid – West Ham United – Nike Mercurial Vapor IX

Winston Reid spent a long time in the Nike’s Seaweed/Volt Vapor VIII colourway. The promising defender has updated his boots now however and finally moved into the new Vapor IX – opting for the Fireberry colourway rather than the Sunset colourway most often worn by younger players.

winston-reid-west-ham

Jermaine Jenas – QPR – Nike CTR360 Maestri III

It seems QPR is the place to go if you are a fringe Tottenham Hotspur player. Andros Townsend was featured last week after scoring his first Premier League goal and this weekend Jermaine Jenas caught our eye having scored 2 in 2 for his loan club.

jermaine-jenas-qpr

Gareth Bale – Tottenham Hotpsur – Adidas AdiZero f50

Tottenham Hotspur star Gareth Bale finally made his long awaited switch to the new Blue/White/Pink AdiZero f50 colourway. Bale was meant to switch into the new colourway a few weeks back but has remained in the launch Yellow/Black/Green colourway. Bale did start the game in the Yellow colourway but came out after half-time in the current colourway.

gareth-bale-spurs

Jonas Gutierrez – Newcastle United – Warrior Skreamer

Jonas Gutierrez showed off the first colourway update for Warrior’s Skreamer boot. Warrior released the S-Lite update recently while confirming there was no update for the K-Lite at the moment. As with many of the Warrior pros at the moment Jonas had a special K-Lite version of the colourway made for him however.

BOOT SPOTTING 9-10 MARCH

Posted on Monday, March 11, 2013 in Boot Spotting

Despite a shorter list of Premier League games happening due to some FA Cup action, we were not left short of great boot spots from the games that were played!

Andros Townsend – QPR – Nike Mercurial Vapor VIII

At looked as though Andros wouldn’t go to QPR from Spurs on deadline day but the deal was pushed through and the young winger has found himself staring for QPR since his arrival. Harry Rednkapp’s faith in the young winger paid off this weekend as Townsend scored his first Premier League goal as he helped QPR secure a vital 3 points.

andros-townsend-qpr

Ian Harte – Reading – Nike Tiempo Legend IV

We have seen a large uptake of Nike’s Black/Green Tiempo Legend IV colourway while very few have worn the alternate White/Black/Crimson version. Ian Harte is one of the very few who have worn the colourway we think is the best Nike have released for IV.

ian-harte-reading

Ben Foster – West Bromwich Albion – Nike Tiempo Legend IV

One player sporting the Black/Green colourway is West Brom keeper Ben Foster. Foster recently announced is return from international retirement and looks to have switched from T90 Lasers to Tiempos to celebrate.

ben-foster-west-brom

Papiss Cisse – Newcastle – Nike T90 Laser IV

Cisse has worn T90 Laser boots for a while but it did take him some time to switch to the new Volt/Black colourway. We wonder if he will remain in them when Nike launch a new colourway as he has enjoyed a rich vein of form since the switch, including smashing home Newcastle’s winner against Stoke this weekend.

papiss-cisse-newcastle

Nathan Baker – Aston Villa – Umbro Speciali III

Umbro boots are few and far between at the moment with Joe Hart and Andy Carroll seemingly the only two players officially on their books. Aston Villa’s Nathan Baker still sports the double diamond but has yet to move from the Speciali III into the updated IV.

Norwich City Mascots – Umbro Speciali III Cup

Baker wasn’t the only person sporting a pair of Umbro Speciali III boots this weekend however as one of Norwich’s mascots was spotted in a pair of Speciali III Cup boots. It seems Umbro still have a marked share despite still finding their feet under new ownership.

Jamie Carragher – Liverpool – Adidas Predator LZ

Liverpool’s veteran defender Jamie Carragher has already announced his retirement at the end of the season and is enjoying a successful run in the team – thanks in part to injuries. Carragher surprised a few when he opted for the SL version of the new LZ but no seems to have gone for the less flashy Black/Red colourway of the standard LZ.

Luke Moore – Swansea City – Adidas AdiZero MiCoach

A few players have remained in the previous adiZero incarnation despite the successful launch of the new look AdiZero f50. Those who have remained keep proving they are a great boot – for example Swansea’s Luke Moore, who found the back of the net for a second consecutive weekend in a pair of Slime/Black colourway boots.

Kei Kamara – Norwich – Adidas AdiZero f50

We weren’t sure if we would see Adidas’ Green/Blue AdiZero f50 colourway in the Premier League. Adidas have chosen to push the Blue colourway instead but that hasn’t stopped Norwich forward Kei Kamara from grabbing a pair. We are big fans of this colourway here at TRW and glad to see them on the pitch.

Robin van Persie – Manchester United – Adidas AdiZero f50

Our final two boot spots don’t come from the Premier League but were certainly worth adding. Robin van Persie looks to have final moved out of his AdiPower Predator boots after the Dutch forward wore a pair of AdiZeros for the first time in United colours this weekend. Van Persie had previously hinted at a switched when he wore a pair in action for the Netherlands.

Lionel Messi – Barcelona – Adidas AdiZero F50 Messi

Elsewhere Leo Messi have his new signature colourway a scoring debut. The eye-catching Red/White colourway certainly looked great on the pitch and both Messi and adidas will be pleased that they could help him find the back of the net in their first appearance.

BOOT SPOTTING 2-3 MARCH

Posted on Monday, March 4, 2013 in Boot Spotting

You know the Premier League will never disappoint when it comes to great footballing action and you know TRW will be here on Monday with the best boot spots from the weekend’s Premier League action.

Gareth Bale – Tottenham Hotspur – Adidas AdiZero F50

We start with the Premier League’s most inform performer Gareth Bale. The Welsh winger has been in unstoppable form recently and after Adidas let us know Bale would wear the new Blue/Pink AdiZero colourway this week we were surprised to see he chose to stick with the launch Yellow/Black colourway. Having scored 11 goals in the launch colourway we wonder if Bale showed his superstitious side and stuck with a proven goal scoring colourway.

Demba Ba – Chelsea – Adidas AdiZero F50

Another player who will have Adidas pulling their hair out is Chelsea stricker Demba Ba. Ba was used in the launch of the new AdiZero but has remained in the speed silo’s previous incarnation. Ba, like Bale, was on the scoresheet this weekend and it would’ve looked great if he had matched the Blue/Pink colourway with his blue Chelsea kit.

Shinji Kagawa – Manchester United – Adidas AdiZero F50

It wasn’t all frustration for Adidas this weekend however. The German giants would’ve been very happy seeing Manchester United star Shinji Kagawa hitting a hat-trick in the new Blue/Pink colourway. The Japan forward showed his best is yet to come banging in 3 goals as United continued to solidify their position at the top of the table.

Steven Pienaar – Everton – Puma evoSPEED 1

We spotted Piennar in this interesting colourway last weekend but were unable to find an image to show you. The South African winger obviously isn’t a fan of the Orange/Ocean/White colourway so took a black-marker to the boots in an attempt to make them a little less eye-catching.

Jack Collison – West Ham – Puma King Finale SL

Despite their immediate success – and some great looking colourways to choose from – West Ham’s Jack Collison has decided not to switch into the new King or King SL. The release of the King Finale SL saw many players switch into the lightweight leather boot but that has not been the case with the new King with most stars sticking with the standard version.

Joe Allen – Liverpool – Nike Tiempo Legend IV

There was a period were Nike athletes were swapping silos left, right and centre as Nike looked to assign silos to positions on the pitch. There is less of that now but Liverpool’s Joe Allen has done a silo hop. The ex-Swansea midfielder had been in CTR360 boots but came out in a pair of Tiempo Legend IV boots as Liverpool took on Wigan.

John Terry – Chelsea – Umbro Speciali III

Terry has been involved in a couple of long running sagas recently and it seems his boot choice is another one. Since Umbro ditched the Chelsea skipper Terry has remained wearing what must’ve been a back-log of Speciali III boots. He had to run out eventually and looked to have moved on after sporting a pair of Nike Tiempo Legend IV boots and then last week the latest Volt/Black T90 Laser IV colourway. This week however JT was back in a rather new looking pair of Speciali III boots.

Michael Dawson – Tottenham Hotspur – Under Armour Blur Carbon III

Having already provided Benoit Assou-Ekotto with a custom pair of Gold/Black Under Armour Blur Carbon III boots, the American brand look to have now done the same for Spurs skipper Dawson after he turned out in a White/Black pair this weekend. Dawson had previously worn a bespoke White/Silver pair of Hydrastrike boots. We wonder why UA keep letting their players wear custom colourways rather than the released colourways – it certainly won’t help gain them more exposure.
